Garden volunteers and horticulturists will be on hand to answer questions, assist in plant selections and offer advice. There is also a used book sale with a wide variety of subjects with all proceeds benefiting the Garden’s library. (Book donations are accepted at Garden Admissions. Sorry, no magazines.) A large variety of specialty retailers will offer unique pottery and other garden accessories.

          Simple Tricks for Tree Identification

Illustrated books are a means of recognizing "easy" trees; i.e., those with unusual leaf shapes. However, to learn botanical features that "define" a particular tree, knowledge of twigs, buds, leaf arrangement & other features is required. David Brandenburg highlights key characteristics needed to accurately differentiate one tree from another. By the time attendees leave, they are ready to tackle identification of any tree they encounter throughout woodlands in Ohio.

Lakewold Gardens along with local organizations will provide a fun-filled day with a range of activities for children and their families. Stations will focus on the many educational aspects of nature including: arts, crafts and activities that will lure visitors down pathways and through the gardens. Admission is $1 per person or donation to Emergency Food Network (non-perishable items). Kiwanis Club of Clover Park will provide hot dogs, chips & beverages for $5 per meal.

Bonsai Made Easy Workshop

Have you ever encountered a plant and wondered immediately about its Bonsai potential? The Tsugawa Bonsai team will help you refine your ideas and understand the qualities and traits to look for when selecting a plant for your next Bonsai project. You'll go home with a Bonsai-in-training and an enhanced ability to identify future Bonsai candidates. Observers are welcome, free of charge.

Anne Raver: Half a Lifetime in Garden

Location:   Bellevue Botanical Garden Education Center, 12001 Main Street, Bellevue, WA
Anne Raver, longtime garden columnist and writer, will be the featured speaker at our Annual Meeting & Lecture, being held at the BBGs recently opened Education Center for the first time. Anne has spent 30 years in the field, first at Newsday, a Long Island daily, then the New York Times, writing about almost anything that involved plants. She has seen it all, from river farms of the Amazon jungle to cantaloupes ripening on a Queens fire escape. She will share some of these stories and more.
Hours:
Doors open at noon with seed and plant sales.

NPA members free, non-members $10 at the door.
